IB MYP Global Contexts – Year-wise

MYP Global Contexts Year-Wise (May & Nov Sessions)

Each year, the IB highlights a specific global context for the on-screen assessments and personal projects. Knowing the theme of your session helps you align your project and learning more effectively.

What Are IB MYP Global Contexts?

The IB MYP Global Contexts are the heart of the Middle Years Programme, helping students connect their learning to the real world. Whether you’re preparing for your MYP eAssessment, working on a Personal Project, or just trying to understand what your unit is really about — global contexts are essential.

In simple terms, global contexts answer the question: “Why are we learning this?”

They help students explore topics through meaningful lenses such as identity, technology, fairness, and sustainability. Every subject — whether it’s Maths, Science, Design, or Language — connects to one of six global contexts, ensuring your learning is relevant and impactful.

The 6 MYP Global Contexts

  1. Identities and Relationships – Explore who we are and how we relate to others
  2. Orientation in Space and Time – Understand the importance of place, history, and journeys
  3. Personal and Cultural Expression – Discover how we express ideas, beliefs, and creativity
  4. Scientific and Technical Innovation – Investigate how the world works through science and technology
  5. Globalization and Sustainability – Examine the interconnectedness of people and the planet
  6. Fairness and Development – Explore justice, equality, and human rights
